Bakri’s sweet life and relationship with his wife, following the easy marriage that takes place at the beginning of the film, reduces the bitterness of his wife’s distance from her and satisfies the audience with Safia.
The film “Mahdi’s Position”, in addition to strong directing, remarkable framing and visual compositions, and fluent and strong acting of actors, lacks quantity in narrative and script. Perhaps this episodic nature of the narrative has deprived the audience of the opportunity to connect with the main character of the film and has not created the necessary drama for him, especially in the sequence of his testimony. The protagonist of the film is defined in most parts in relation to his brother that the image of his brother is not a complete image and is limited to a short sequence of mosaic in the yard and the sequence of his martyrdom. The depicted relationship between these two brothers does not show the love and affection between them. Perhaps a picture of childhood or a deeper relationship between two brothers would do the trick. Also in the final sequence and the martyrdom of Mehdi Bakri, the logic necessary for Mehdi to stay in the middle of the battle and not go back with the others is not shown and makes him more of an emotional and defeated fighter than a brave and courageous commander.
In the meantime, perhaps the biggest flaw of the movie “Mahdi Situation” can be considered as summarizing an independent dramatic work, because the characters and narratives of this work are presented in a very incomplete and concise way in the period of a movie. Each episode of the cinematic format, which is specifically a summary of a serial episode, reveals the story of the serial version in a hurried process and deprives the audience of the opportunity to understand and communicate with the work. In this work, we see an episodic narration of Mehdi Bakeri. While not all six curtains belong to “Mahdi Bakri”.
In general, the movie “Mahdi Situation” can be considered as the phenomenon of the “Fortieth Festival”. A work in the “Holy Defense Genre” sits away from the bitter and dark atmosphere of socially themed films narrating the life of one of the “national heroes”. A film that, although far from reaching the absolute perfection of filmmaking, but the courage in choosing the subject and dealing with it is something to be defended and admired.
