22% drop in production of Swedish car giant


Eqtesadonline – Parham Karimi; Volvo Cars reported sales of 58,677 vehicles in March, down 22.1 percent from the same month last year. During the first quarter, the number of vehicles sold increased to 148,295 as supply chain restrictions on Volvo Cars and the auto industry eased. However, due to the lack of a specific semiconductor, Volvo Cars is now experiencing a temporary deviation from this trend, which is expected to affect production in the second quarter.

In March, sales of Volvo electric models accounted for 35.5% of total Volvo car sales, and all-electric vehicle sales accounted for 9.0% of total sales, as well as the number of active subscriptions at the end of March compared to the same period last year. Similar to last year, it has increased by 174 percent

Sales in Europe fell 30.4 percent in March to 26,954 units, with Recharge models accounting for more than half of Europe’s total sales during the month. In the first quarter, Volvo sold 65,117 cars in Europe, down 25.6 percent from the same period last year.

In China, sales fell 22.6 percent to 12,378 units in March. The company sold 3,5689 vehicles in China in the first quarter, down 21.1 percent from the same period last year.

US sales reached 9,428 units in March, down 5.0 percent from the same month last year. In the first quarter of the year, Volvo sold 22,757 vehicles in the United States, down 16.5 percent from the same period last year.

In March 2022, the XC60 was the company’s best-selling model with 16,855 vehicles, followed by the XC40 with 17,584 vehicles (and the XC90 with 9,141 vehicles sold.
