He added: According to the results of the national study of risk factors of non-communicable diseases in 1400 (STEPS), almost 14% of people over 18 years of age in Iranian society use tobacco, which includes about 26% of men and 4.5% of women, and this consumption has increased since 2015, with There has been an increase of about 2.5% in men and 11% in women over 18 years old.

The head of the Environment and Labor Health Center of the Ministry of Health said: According to the study of 2015, about 10% of teenagers aged 13 to 15 years used various tobacco products, which includes about 13% of boys and 8% of girls.

He continued: In this study, smoking among teenagers aged 13 to 15 was reported to be about 3.5%, including about 5% of boys and 2% of girls, which has increased by more than 13% compared to the statistics of the previous round of this study in 2016. The increase was mainly due to a 133% increase in smoking among teenage girls.

Jandaghi pointed out that this study also showed that, unfortunately, about 24% of teenagers are exposed to tobacco smoke at home and 38% in public places. About 21% of people over the age of 18 are exposed to secondhand smoke at home and 17% at work.

He added: Considering the prevalence of tobacco use in recent studies and other age groups, it is estimated that there are 10 million tobacco users in the country, and this amount of consumption causes the death of about 60,000 people every year, of which almost 6,000 are There are those who die due to exposure to the smoke of other people’s consumption.
