A Taliban official has criticized new restrictions on women in Afghanistan

Abbas Stanekzai, the political deputy of the interim government of the Taliban, spoke today, Sunday, at a meeting on the death of Akhtar Mohammad Mansour, the former Taliban leader, in Kabul, about his nine-month performance. The group criticized.

“The Taliban have not given women the right to education,” she said. There is no education in Afghanistan today. “Give them their rights.”

Stanekzai stressed that the government’s duty is to fight corruption, not to ignore the rights of half the population out of fear.

Stanekzai’s criticism comes at a time when the group is still not allowed to go to school nine months after the Taliban took office.

On the other hand, the widespread restrictions imposed on women by the Taliban have provoked strong international reactions, and the Taliban are under pressure from the international community in this area.

Abbas Stanekzai challenged not only the performance of the Taliban but also the ruling traditions in Afghanistan, saying that women have not had the right to choose a husband for a long time, contrary to Islamic law, and that widows cannot choose a second husband.

She also criticized the restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Promoting Virtue and Prohibiting Virtue on women.

Earlier, the Taliban issued a formal decree on the issue of women’s hijab.

After that, another order was given to female TV presenters to cover their faces with masks during the program.

Ministry spokesman Mohammad Sadegh Akef warned that media officials and guardians would be punished if they disobeyed the order.

Abbas Stanekzai called on the group to allow people to have sound criticism and to express their demands and grievances.

Referring to the former Afghan government and the issue of people’s dissatisfaction with it, he said: “Listen to their problems, controversies and complaints and act accordingly. “But if the opposite is done, it is clear that this time will be very limited.”
