Apple enables auto-switching to ultra-wide camera for macro photography on iPhone 13 Pro

The iPhone 13 series phones were introduced with a powerful camera, and the Pro models support macro photography. Studies have shown that the camera switches from wide to ultra-wide when you get too close to the subject with the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. Now Apple has said it will prevent such a thing by offering an update in the future.

According to the website «Input MagMacro photography on the iPhone 13 Pro models automatically switches the camera from wide-angle to ultra-wide lens when the subject-to-camera distance is less than 14 cm. In this mode, the viewfinder is still at 1x, but the camera uses an ultra-wide lens for autofocus.

Following the criticism, Apple has now responded by saying that the camera will automatically switch to help users capture better close-up details. It also announced that this fall, during an update, it will add the ability to disable automatic switching to ultra-wide lenses on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. This is true for filming and photography.

Although Apple has announced the release of such an update, it seems that another way can be used to prevent this in filming right now. In the Settings> Camera section, with the “Lock Camera” option, the automatic switch can be disabled during video recording, but such a feature is not available during photography, and users will have to wait for the Apple update.

The iPhone 13 series cameras are equipped with many features, one of the most attractive of which is the cinematic mode. A few days ago, Apple released a video of the family reviewing their phones, which, in addition to the new camera features, also shows the differences between these devices.
