Apple’s first M1 Max processor benchmark released; 55% faster than M1

Extraordinary performance of the M1 Max chip

Looking at the performance of this chip in the Geekbench 5 benchmark, we can see its very good performance. In other words, Apple’s M1 Max processor scored 1749 and 11542 in single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. It should be noted that this test was performed on Macbook Pro 18.2 based on macOS 12.4.

It should be noted that the Macbook Pro 18.2 has not been officially introduced yet, and Apple has so far only unveiled two models, 14.2 and 16.2 inches. This device could most likely be one of Apple’s test platforms that has not yet been released to the market, so we may hear more about it in the near future.

For comparison, the M1 processor in the MacBook Pro 2020 was equipped with 8 cores and a frequency of 3.2 GHz. On the other hand, we have the new M1 Max chip, which now has more cores (10 vs. 8) and higher frequencies (due to its 5-nanometer TSMC manufacturing technology). These eventually led to a 2 to 3 percent advantage over the M1 Max in the single-core test.

However, this is not the whole story, and the actual performance of the M1 Max processor can be well seen in the multi-core test. Accordingly, the performance of Apple’s new chip was on average up to 55% better than the MacBook Pro and iMac equipped with the M1 chip.
