Are municipal companies profitable or service providers?

According to Fars News Agency’s urban correspondent, Seyed Ahmad Alavi, a member of the Tehran City Council, stated about the urgent review of the “Charter of the Auditing and Financial Supervision Working Group”: It is a service.

He added: “The purpose of establishing many companies is not profitability and Tehran Municipality has only sought to provide services, so we should not pay attention to their profitability and loss when reviewing the audit.”

Alavi continued by stating that the audit only focuses on financial and commercial issues and the amount of profit and loss: Many of these municipal companies are not established for profit and their job is to provide services. According to this member of the Tehran City Council, the view of members when auditing these companies should not be merely financial gain.
