China is building a special base for the Tajik Interior Ministry in the Wakhan Strait on the border with Afghanistan.

According to Sputnik, China is building a special base in the Wakhan Strait in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan for the Tajik Interior Ministry worth about $ 8.9 million, a draft agreement for which was approved by the republic’s parliament on Wednesday.

China will build a base worth 100 million somoni (55 million yuan, or about $ 8.9 million) for the Tajik Interior Ministry under an agreement between the Tajik Interior Ministry and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.
The first deputy head of Tajikistan’s law enforcement agency told the lower house that a plan to build the base would be completed soon.
He noted that in the Wakhan Strait in the Ishkashim region, the base will be built for the Tajik Interior Ministry’s Organized Crime Response Team.
He stressed that according to the agreement, all equipment imported to Tajikistan from China will be exempt from taxes and customs duties at the time of construction of the base.
