Egyptian leader: We want the Palestinian Authority to return to Gaza

The Egyptian President stressed that Cairo attaches great importance to Palestinian unity and will continue its efforts to return the Palestinian Authority to Gaza and begin the process of rebuilding the Gaza Strip.

According to Sputnik, quoting ISNA, the Egyptian president said in a conversation with the head of the Palestinian Authority that Cairo will continue its moves to return the PA to Gaza.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in a call Wednesday evening with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, provided another picture of Egypt’s efforts to support Palestine.

“We are committed to the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legal representative of the Palestinian people,” he said.

Al-Sisi briefed Abbas on the outcome of his meeting last month with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett at the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. During the meeting, al-Sisi stressed the need to advance peace efforts, confidence-building measures and create the right environment to begin the political process in accordance with legitimate international resolutions.

The Egyptian President stressed that Cairo attaches great importance to Palestinian unity and will continue its efforts to return the Palestinian Authority to Gaza and begin the process of rebuilding the Gaza Strip.

Hamas has controlled Gaza since 2007, and Israel is stepping up its siege of the region, home to about two million Palestinians.
