Esteki: Uzbekistan is like football in boxing like Brazil / Our main target is Hangzhou

Alireza Esteki Speaking to IRNA on Monday about the joint camp with the Uzbek national team, he said: “This is the second time we are in the Uzbek national team camp and we have a joint training camp with the Uzbek team.”

He added: “I have a special belief in holding a joint camp with the teams in power, while the weather conditions here are also compatible with our boxers.”

“If we are not sent to a tournament, we can simulate in the internal camps by holding a fight between our own people, but holding a joint camp with prominent people is very useful for the national team,” Esteki said.

“The Uzbeks have nothing more than us,” Esteki said. Maybe the high number of boxers and their facilities are better and more. Boxing Uzbekistan is like Brazil in football and training with them will definitely have a positive effect.

The head coach of the Iranian national team continued: It is good to go to a class A tournament before the official matches. We may have the Asian Championship before important events such as the Islamic Games and the Asian Games, which can be seen as a preparatory tournament. Of course, we want to send a different team than Hangzhou for the Islamic Games, which will be held in Turkey in August.

“Now we have an endurance training course and we have recently started general and specific exercises,” he said. The main goal of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou is to prepare a strong team for this event.

“Meysam Gheshlaghi has just had surgery on his injured shoulder and will be able to return to training in three months,” he said of his team’s absence from the Uzbek army. “Siavos Omidi” could not be with the team due to his military service. Omidi’s presence was important for us because he is a supporter.

In the end, Esteki said: the national championship will be held about 2 weeks after the holy month of Ramadan, which can be an important path to reach the national boxing team.
