Fortunately or unfortunately, the actors are busy!

The lack of a suitable actor in our theater is a long-standing problem that incidentally is not only the problem of young and unknown directors, but also of our greatest directors.

Theater News Base: Ever since masters like Hamid Samandarian returned to Iran after finishing their studies, this problem has existed in our theater, and we read in the memoirs of these artists that sometimes, due to the lack of a suitable actor, they were forced to skip performing a powerful play.

Even now, despite the large number of acting graduates graduating from universities or free colleges, we are still facing the problem of acting, but this issue has now taken a different form.

If in the past a director could not find a suitable actor for some roles, today, the main problem is not the lack of an actor, but the fact that most actors are working on other projects and the director either has to wait a long time for that actor to come or has to. Give up your idealism and be satisfied with the presence of other actors.

In the last year or two, Corona, for its part, has fueled this old issue, bringing new challenges to theater directors. Those who have been following the theater news know how directors such as Gulab Adineh and Hadi Marzban, two well-known theater directors in the country, have faced the problem of finding a suitable actor during this period. Both directors are scheduled to perform in the main hall of the Shahr Theater. So far, the dates of their performances have changed several times. In the meantime, it remains to be thanked that the spell of the play “My Beloved Lady” directed by Gulab Adineh is being broken, and recently the cast of this play was introduced.

Adineh and Marzban both started their new plays before Corona. Gulab Adineh started her rehearsals with a large group of young actors who are her students, but she, like her other colleagues, had to stop rehearsing the play several times during the Corona. In the meantime, different actors were nominated for the play in this play, but the successive theater holidays, with the corona peaking each time, disrupted the rehearsal process of this play, until recently it was announced by the public relations of the Shahr Theater that the play starring Jalil Farjad, Amir Ghaffarmanesh, Nora Hashemi, Reza Omrani, Golshid Bahiraei and Morteza Amini-Tabar will take the stage.

But the story of the play “Dr. Noon Loves His Wife More Than Mossadegh” directed by Hadi Marzban is even more complicated. The director has been directing this play for more than 15 years, which is an adaptation of a story of the same name written by Shahram Rahimian.

Marzban initially intended to stage the play with a live performance by Jamshid Mashayekhi, which could not be performed during the artist’s lifetime due to administrative problems.

During this time, he staged other plays, but the dream of “Dr. Nun” did not give up and this time he agreed with Reza Kianian to perform this play. The rehearsals started and the play was supposed to be staged in Vahdat Hall in the winter of 1998, but the rehearsal was stopped a few days before the official announcement of Corona’s arrival, and with the arrival of this uninvited guest, it was natural for the play to be closed for a while.

After that, Hadi Marzban talked to Farhad Ayesh, but the presence of this actor was not possible. Mehdi Fakhimzadeh and Amin Zandegani were other actors who attended the rehearsals of the play for a while, but the unforeseen coronation break and the delay in the performance of this play caused these two actors to leave the executive group of “Dr. Noon”.

Theater work has never been so lucrative for its actors. In many cases, we have seen that activists in this field earn money in visual projects so that they can continue their heartfelt activities in the theater.

Meanwhile, the main hall of the city theater complex, as one of the great theaters, has been silent for a long time. Performing full-length plays has always been troublesome, and it has become even more so during Corona’s difficult times.

These days, when even most moviegoers do not have a clear financial outlook for film production, making series on new platforms has become a sure way to make money. Therefore, it is natural that with the high volume of productions in the home theater network, theater directors will face more serious problems in finding the actors they want.

Consecutive theater vacations and the fifty percent capacity of theaters, which is part of the health protocols of the Crohn’s era, have also fueled this issue, causing theater directors to face new challenges in finding the actors they are looking for, problems that need to be addressed today. Otherwise, in the post-Corona era, it will not give up on our theater for a long time.
