Global smartphone sales forecast to increase by 5.3% in 2021

We are in the last days of 2021 and companies are presenting their market forecast for this year. Research firm IDC now predicts that global smartphone sales will grow overall by 5.3% this year, despite the shortage of chips.

BAccording to this company, Smartphone sales will reach 1.35 billion units this year, which indicates a growth of 5.3 percent. According to this source, the sales of phones in the third quarter of 2021 were lower than expected, due to the pressure that the shortage of parts has put on the manufacturers. These challenges are expected to continue until mid-2022.

IDC had previously forecast a 3.4 percent increase in handset sales in 2022, but has now cut its forecast to 3.0 percent. In addition to next year, IDC forecasts for sales this year have also declined. The company previously expected the smartphone market to grow by 7.4 percent in 2021, but has now reached 5.3 percent.

According to IDC, logistical and supply shortage challenges are slowly declining, and over the next five years, we will see the market grow by approximately 3.5%. The reason for such growth will be the migration from ordinary phones to smartphones as well as their lower prices.

The research company also reported the pressure of shortage of parts on 4G models and on the manufacturers that produce and market most 4G handsets. This issue has reduced the sales of these phones in the third season of 2021.

Smartphone sales are expected to fall in single digits in the fourth quarter of 2021, and this decline will be further in Asian countries other than Japan and China. According to IDC, the average price of Android phones will reach $ 265 and iPhones will reach $ 950 in 2021.
