Google unveils four new Nest security products

Google has updated its Nest collection with three new products and an upgraded version of the Nest Cam wired internal camera. Among the newcomers are Nest Cam and Doorbell equipped with Google battery. You can install them almost anywhere in your home and connect them to a wired power supply if you wish.

Battery life depends on the number of events recorded by the devices and factors such as temperature and settings. Google says the new dual-battery lasts up to six months on a single charge, while the Nest Cam can last up to seven months before it needs to be charged. You can charge the door via USB-C and the camera using a USB-A adapter.

The new camera is capable of capturing video with a resolution of 989 x 1280 pixels at a rate of 30 frames per second. It also has a 6x digital zoom, a 145-degree diagonal field of view, and thanks to night vision, it can see up to 10 feet in the dark. It also has a 3: 4 field of view so you can fully see who is appearing in your home.

In the case of the new Nest Cam, the video can be recorded at 1080p resolution and up to 30 frames per second. This new product has a 130 degree diagonal field of view, 6x digital zoom and night vision that can display objects up to 20 feet away. It also has IP54 standard for weather resistance. In addition to installing it outdoors, you can install the camera indoors.

Both products, designed with recycled materials, offer up to three hours of event video history. You can increase it by subscribing to Nest Aware. Like some of the brand’s other cameras, the battery-powered Nest Cam allows you to record video 24 hours a day with a Nest Aware Plus subscription, although you’ll need to connect it to a continuous power supply.

In addition, the company is offering for the first time a Nest Cam with integrated floodlights. A common feature of all four devices is that they are only designed to alert you to important events. They all have machine learning capabilities on the device to identify and alert you about people, animals and vehicles. Doorbell can detect and alert packages within eight inches of your door. Google says it does not need to share to use these features, and has trained the machine learning model on 40 million images to take into account a variety of environments and lighting conditions.

The devices also offer a familiar face recognition feature to Nest Aware subscribers. You can decide who can recognize them. Meanwhile, on-device processing capabilities allow the door and cameras to store video events locally for up to an hour in the event of a power outage or Wi-Fi. Depending on the level of activity at home, this is about a week of events. When everything is reactivated, they upload these events to the cloud.
