Hungry gravedigger discovers ancient Roman treasure in search of food!

According to the visual correspondent of Fars News Agency, quoted by EuronewsIn search of food, a hungry gravedigger discovers treasures from ancient Rome.

Archaeologists say a treasure trove of about 200 ancient Roman coins has been discovered in northwestern Spain thanks to the efforts of a gravedigger in search of food.

Described as “exceptional finds”, the coins were found in the cave of La Constan درa in Brescia in the Autonomous Community of Asturias, Spain.

Researchers say the hole leading to the coins may have been dug by a gravedigger in January last year. At this time, a severe snowstorm swept through northwestern Spain, and many creatures began digging to satisfy their hunger and find a variety of worms and insects. The unlucky mammal, however, had discovered only a handful of inedible round metals, which were later spotted and identified by a local.

Archaeologists say they have found a number of coins in the crater and sand dunes of the gravedigger, and have found more of them inside the hole.

Archaeologists say most of these coins date to the late Roman period (between the third and fifth centuries AD) in the northern and eastern Mediterranean regions, including Antioch, Constantinople, and Thessaloniki. According to them, “the number of coins discovered, as well as the fascinating subject of the transfer of power in the early Middle Ages, make the treasure discovered in Brescia an exceptional find.”

Researchers speculate that the 209 coins may have been smuggled into the area in the fifth century AD due to “political instability”. At this time the Sobians, a branch of the Germanic people, invaded the northwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula.

Burrowers are very skilled at digging underground nests. They spend the day in the nest and the night hunting for nutritious plants and hunting for small prey.

Details of the gravedigger’s discovery of the treasure were recently published by Madrid State University.
