Iran loses right to vote in UN – Mehr News Agency | Iran and world’s news

According to the Mehr news agency, AFP claimed today that Iran and several other countries lost their right to vote in the United Nations under the pretext of not paying their debts.

According to the news agency, eight countries, including Iran, lost their right to vote in the United Nations under the pretext of non-payment of debts.

Antonio Guterres said in a letter to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday that the debts of 11 countries were in arrears.

Under the UN Charter, a member state’s suffrage is suspended while its arrears are equal to or greater than the amount paid.

Accordingly, the eight countries that have already lost their voting rights are Iran, Sudan, Venezuela, Antigua and Barbuda, Congo, Guinea and New Guinea.
