According to the Mehr reporter, Behzad Sattari stated in a meeting with the officials of the genetic counseling centers of Ardabil province on Wednesday noon: The total number of services, clients, counseling and genetic testing clients in this province reached 12,455.

He added: “6,836 of these people are covered by premarital plans, and 1,829 people include high-risk referrals in the premarital plan to genetic counseling centers.”

Referring to the causes of disabilities, the Director General of Welfare of Ardabil Province said: “Genetic disorders and consanguineous marriages are among the issues that lead to the occurrence of various disabilities and disorders in children.”

Sattari added: “Performing specialized consultations in the field of genetics, premarital consultations, a large project to identify genetic disorders, referring families with 3 or more disabilities to the genetic laboratory and informing the community about the prevalence of various disabilities are among the measures taken by the Welfare Organization.” It offers a very valuable and acceptable.
