Say goodbye to WordPad!
Most of the time, Microsoft allows users to use removed features after removing them or install them as add-ons. However, this is not the case with WordPad. Currently, the Redmonds are planning to remove WordPad from Windows 11 and not allow it to be reinstalled.
Microsoft has removed WordPad in its new Canary version. From version 26020 onwards, WordPad is no longer available by default in the operating system. More importantly, Microsoft has announced that the program will not be reinstalled. From this release, WordPad and People apps will no longer be installed after a clean OS install. In a future version, WordPad will be removed during upgrade. It is not possible to reinstall WordPress. WordPad is a deprecated software in Windows.
Although there won’t be an official way to restore this plain old text editor, enthusiasts will probably find a way to bring it back to Windows 11. You can easily find guides and executable files that allow you to install standard games from Windows 7, old image displays and other components. Just make sure they are from a reputable source before installing any unknown exe files you find on the internet.
Steps Recorder (psr.exe) will also be included in this removal. Microsoft has not yet removed it from the operating system; But for now, there is a banner with a notice that the app is no longer in active development.
Fortunately, there are many powerful text editors for Windows, both free and paid. Microsoft naturally requires you to register to edit doc and rtf files and other text files in Word on Microsoft 365; But you can use Office Online for free or turn to third-party options.
About Steps Recorder, Microsoft suggests using Snipping Tool and Xbox Game Bar or Microsoft Clipchamp. None of these can fully replace the features found in Steps Recorder; So, you might want to look further.
