Talks between the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Iran and Russia on Middle East issues



According to IRNA, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday that the two sides exchanged views on important issues in the Middle East, including the situation in Syria, including cooperation in the framework of the Astana talks.

Negotiations in the Astana format began five years ago to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis, in which the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia and Turkey are participating. So far, 16 rounds of Astana talks have taken place, the last of which took place in mid-July in the Kazakh city of Nursultan.

The situation in Syria, the activities of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva, international aid and some measures such as the exchange of prisoners, the release of hostages were among the topics of the talks.

A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said that during the meeting between Bagheri and Bogdanov, the situation in Yemen, Iraq and the Persian Gulf region was also discussed.

Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, arrived in Moscow on Thursday evening.

As part of his visit to Moscow, Bagheri also met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and chief nuclear negotiator Sergei Ryabkov.
