Rizen Labs said the malicious file, titled “spiderman_net_putidomoi.torrent.exe,” was released on torrent, which is a Russian translation of “spiderman_no_wayhome.torrent.exe.” The research company said that the main source of this file is probably one of the Russian torrent websites.

Some Internet users use torrent file publishing websites to download illegal and free versions of various movies and series. In these websites, cases of abuse of users using malware are seen immediately.

The malware prevents Microsoft Defender, Windows Antivirus, from running and launches a process to monitor and control the system to stay on the victim’s computer. After the malware is removed from the victim system, two new operations called “Sihost64.exe” and “WR64.exe” are launched. With the implementation of these two processing processes, “XMrig”, which is a trojan for extracting Monroe, starts its work.

“Although the malware does not steal users’ personal information, it will have consequences for the victim, which include increased power costs, abnormal CPU usage, and slowed-down systems,” Reason Labs said.
