The FBI mail server was attacked by hackers


The FBI has confirmed in a statement that hackers in a bizarre move were able to take control of the agency’s email server and send unrealistic emails to several of the agency’s investigators. The e-mails contained links used to hack into the central system of the organization and these researchers, and apparently the ultimate target of these attacks is Mr. Winnie Troy, leader of the Dark Web security companies NightLion and Shadowbyte.

Apparently, the two companies, which work as contractors with the FBI, quickly noticed the security leak and infiltrated it and stopped it at the first opportunity. The Spamhaus Project, which tracks cyber threats, shared a copy of these emails on its Twitter page. The subject of this e-mail is “Immediate: Presence of a Threat Agent in the Systems” and at the end of it, the signature of the US Department of Homeland Security can be seen.

The Spamhaus Project says the attackers obtained their email addresses from the US Internet Registry Office (ARIN) database and several other sources. The attack involved at least two waves and sent fake messages to more than 100,000 email addresses. The FBI has asked those who received the fake e-mail to report the information to the Cybercrime Complaints Center or the Cyber ​​Security and Infrastructure Security Agency.
