The income from peddling and motorized courier is higher than that of a factory worker

According to Fars News Agency’s economic correspondent, Hervik Yarijanian stated today at the 30th meeting of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce Board of Representatives: “Apart from the concerns that government institutions create for manufacturing factories, we are facing a real shortage of labor in factories these days.”

He added: “No one works with the salaries set by the Ministry of Labor (minimum wage) or even higher, and the managers of production units are looking for Afghan workers with lights in the dark in the business environment.”

A member of the board of representatives of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce stated: Courier workers, internet taxi drivers, fast food workers and restaurants earn higher incomes than workers in production units.

He added: “Even if 30% is added to the workers’ salaries of 1401, no one will leave informal jobs such as peddling to stand on the machine.”

Criticizing why laws are not enacted to employ foreign labor, the member of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce said: “One of the options for providing labor for production units is to use foreign workers, especially Afghans, but according to the existing laws, they are employed.” It is almost impossible.

Yarijanian said: “There are almost no Iranian workers in some factories, so it is suggested that legal conditions be provided for the activities of foreign workers, especially Afghans, in factories and production units.”

He added: “What is pressing the producers more than taxes and liquidity problems today is the shortage of labor force. The shortage of labor force in the production sector will reduce production and shortage in the market and will increase prices again.”
