In a recent statement, Iraqi officials released the latest figures for the Arbaeen Husseini pilgrims, saying that 17 million people attended the 40th Imam Hussein rites.

According to Sputnik, quoting IRNA, Iraqi Interior Minister Osman al-Ghanimi announced in a joint press conference with Karbala Governor Nadif al-Khattabi that the number of pilgrims to Arbaeen Hosseini has increased this year.

The increase in the number of participants in the Arbaeen Hosseini rites is due to the fact that due to coronary restrictions, foreign pilgrims, including millions of Iranian pilgrims, were not able to travel to Iraq in large numbers and according to tradition every year.

The Iraqi Interior Minister announced at the meeting that the number of Arbaeen pilgrims this year increased from last year to 17 million.

The number of pilgrims to the Arbaeen rituals last year was 14 million and 500 thousand, and this year 2.5 million people have been added to this statistic.

The Iraqi Interior Minister reminded that this year the number of Arbaeen Hosseini pilgrims entering Karbala was 17 million.

Al-Ghanimi stressed that despite this population of millions, no security incidents occurred and that the “Arbaeen Special Security Plan” was successfully implemented.

The governor of Karbala also said at the press conference that all Arbaeen special service projects were successfully implemented and nearly 100,000 manpower and executive staff were employed to implement them.

Earlier, before the announcement of the Iraqi Minister of Interior, Utbah Hosseini announced that the electronic system for counting pilgrims from 16:00 to 20:00 (September 15 to 28) received 16 million 327 thousand 542 pilgrims from the five main routes of Baghdad – Karbala, Najaf. Karbala, Babylon-Karbala, and the two Husseiniyah-Karbala roads to this city have been recorded.

The 40th anniversary of Imam Hussein is the largest and most glorious religious gathering in the world, with a population of over 20 million in the years leading up to the outbreak of the corona virus.
