The Ukrainian War reached the Cannes Film Festival



The opening film of the Cannes Film Festival was renamed because of its resemblance to the symbol of Russian forces in the war against Ukraine.

Theater News Base: French director Michel Azanavis, best known for making the Academy Award-winning film “The Artist,” has previously announced that the 75th Cannes Film Festival will open with the release of his new film, “Z,” as the opening film, but since “Z Used as a symbol of Russia’s support in the war against Ukraine, the film was renamed “The Last Cut” and will be released internationally with this new title.

Coinciding with the announcement of the film as the opening film of the festival at a press conference on April 14 in Paris, the title of the film “Z” caused surprise and dissatisfaction among filmmakers and the Ukrainian film industry.

“The Last Cut” is a French-language version and remake of the Japanese film “One Cut Of The Dead” made by Shinichiro Oeda in 2017, starring Bernice Beju, Finnigan Oldfield, and Jean Pascal Zadi. , “Liz Salem” and “Luana Bajrami” have played roles.

The Cannes Film Festival also supported the renaming of “Z” by Michel Azanavis to “The Last Cut” in a statement.

The 75th Cannes Film Festival will be held in person from May 17 to 28 (May 17 to June 27).
