The United Nations has condemned the coup attempt in Sudan



“Any attempt to undermine Sudan’s political transition would jeopardize progress on the political and economic fronts,” said Antonio Guterres’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric on Wednesday, according to IRNA.

He continued: “The Secretary-General calls on all parties to be committed to transmitting and realizing the aspirations of the Sudanese people for an inclusive, peaceful, stable and democratic future.”

A spokesman for the UN Secretary-General added: “The United Nations stands with the Government and people of Sudan in this effort.”

The Sudanese army said in a statement that efforts to oust the coup had been thwarted and called on the Sudanese people to confront the failed coup.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Sudanese Transitional Council announced that the country’s affairs were now under control and that the revolution was victorious.

A Sudanese source said 40 army officers accused of involvement in the coup had been arrested. A group of coup plotters wanted to take control of the situation in the country.
