The United Nations has stressed the importance of cooperation between key parties to end the conflict in Syria



UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman Stephen Dujarric said on Tuesday about the visit of UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Syria Geer Pederson to Tehran. The Iranian Foreign Minister met with other senior Iranian officials.

The spokesman for the UN Secretary-General added: “Pederson also traveled to Doha, Qatar and met with Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani and the head of the Syrian Negotiation Commission, Anas al-Abdu.”

Dojarik said that the UN Special Representative, with all parties, examined the possibility of progress in the Constitutional Committee and a wider set of issues step by step, and stressed the need for important parties to work together on common issues to end the conflict in Syria. In line with Security Council Resolution 2254, he stressed.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Syria and thanked him for his contribution to the national dialogue and peace and stability in Syria. He stressed the stability in Syria.

Emphasizing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s view on a political solution to the Syrian crisis, Amir Abdullahian said that the United Nations has been part of the pursuit of a political solution in Syria since the beginning of the country’s developments.

The Iranian Foreign Minister blamed the illegal presence of US forces in Syria, as well as the Israeli attacks on the country, for disrupting the political settlement process in Syria, and stressed the need for the international community and the United Nations to pay attention to it.

Amir Abdullahian added that without considering the issue of refugees and the sanctions imposed on Syria, the crisis in this country cannot be directed in the right direction.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Syria also described the situation in Syria as stable, adding that in the current situation, neither side is talking about regime change in the country.

He stressed the preservation of national sovereignty, political establishment and territorial integrity of Syria.
