The US and Russian foreign ministers met again

Earlier on Saturday, Blinken spoke by telephone with his Russian counterpart to discuss serious and common concerns about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine in the next few days, according to a State Department statement.

Despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement that Moscow does not want a war, the US Secretary of State also said in an interview with France 24 that the United States is deeply concerned about Russia’s possible action against Ukraine this week.

A senior US State Department official told CNN: “In the last conversation between the two countries’ foreign ministers over the weekend, they agreed to keep in touch.

The talks between the US and Russian foreign ministers took place as Moscow announced that it had withdrawn some of its forces from the Ukrainian border, but US officials said evidence of this should be seen.

“We evaluate Russia’s statements based on past examples that Moscow has said will reduce tensions, but the facts on the ground have not confirmed this claim,” said US Ambassador to NATO Julian Smith.

The United States says it sent a letter to Russia about three weeks ago, but Russia has not yet responded.

While the United States itself has been accused of creating crisis and atmosphere in Ukraine, informed US officials claim that Russian intelligence agencies have worked closely with the editors of five Russian-language media outlets to strengthen public support for Russia’s re-invasion of Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that it has no intention of launching a military attack on Ukraine and is seeking security guarantees that prevent the development of a US-led military alliance (NATO).

US-Western relations with Russia have been strained since 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula; The West has repeatedly sanctioned Russia on the pretext of Russian interference in Ukraine’s internal affairs, but Moscow denies the West’s claim.
