What apps should you remove from your phone?

A security expert has revealed two types of apps you should remove from your smartphone. Removing them can save you from a security disaster and even help preserve the health of your mobile battery.

James McQuigan, security expert at KnowBe4, said: “The apps that should be removed from your phone are the unused or outdated apps that you no longer use. They contain information about you and occupy the space of your mobile phone.

“Only install apps from trusted sources like the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store,” he continued. Unless you completely trust the program. Installing apps from untrusted sources means opening a back door for malicious code or apps that want to steal your information.

McQuigan also stressed the importance of not giving apps too many permissions. Fraudulent apps often ask you to access unnecessary permissions like your phone’s camera, microphone, and location. If an app requests access to the microphone and the reason is unknown, it can be a sign of danger.

“Consider the functionality of the app and what it needs to function,” says the expert. Social networking apps like to have access to all your contacts to help you find other friends. You can search your friends from your contact list without providing all your contacts to the app and protect yourself and your friends.

It is also recommended that you take the review of programs and comments about them seriously. Before installing the app on your mobile, familiarize yourself with it. If you haven’t heard of it at all and no one else has reviewed it, it could be a red flag for a scam.
