How did the “people of hell” break the record of the “compound game”? / A violent narrative of sending the dead to hell + film

Fars News Agency – Cinema Group: The Korean series “Departure to Hell” aired on Netflix on November 20 (November 29) and in less than 24 hours managed to break the record of “composite game” and become the most watched Internet series in 93 countries.

The production of this series was announced for the first time in April 2020, and the pre-production and casting stages began. The series premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2021 and was the first Korean drama to appear at the festival. The series aired on Netflix in November 2021, and during the first day of its release, it became one of the top ten most-watched series, breaking the record for composite game viewing by audiences and becoming known as the most popular series in the world.

“People of Hell” is a series in the genre of horror and fantasy, and it tells the story of extraterrestrial demons who, when humans die, suddenly appear to burn them and take them to hell. These strange and transcendental events cause disorder and chaos in society; Meanwhile, a religious group called Haqiqat – led by Jeong Jinsoo – is increasing its sphere of influence and power.

At the beginning of the series, we see huge demons that look like the “Hulk” and chase a man in broad daylight on a busy street in Seoul (the capital of South Korea) to kill him with great violence and take him to hell. This event is not far from the eyes of the people on the street and in the bazaar, and they are filming these scenes.

* What is “Hell” about?

In an alternative world, death sentences are handed down accidentally for the imminent death of a person who has committed a crime. These rulings are then executed on a specific date and time by three smoky demons who appear out of nowhere, literally beating the victims, setting them on fire, and sending them to hell.

The confusing appearance of transcendental beings soon leads to conspiracy theories. Amid the people’s fear and confusion, the leader of a religious group called the New Truth Association claims to be close to these cognitive beings and claims that this is God’s way of judging and administering justice. Meanwhile, the suspects are violently attacked by a radical group called the “arrowhead” who are wearing the robes of the guards …

In these fights, we meet some of the main characters of the series: Detective Jin Kyung-hoon (played by Yang Ek-joon), who is trying to reconcile with his teenage daughter after killing his wife. Min Hee Jin’s lawyer (Kim Hyun Joe) who tries to help a female victim. Bae Yang Jae (Park Jung Min), a television station producer who is desperate to find a solution after one of his loved ones was convicted.

* What do critics say?

Many critics of Raton Tomitoz praise the series for its philosophical tone, while others see it as a Marvel-style action-fantasy film, albeit a more violent and bloody version.

In one review we read: This very popular series is not about scary monsters, but about what happens next? How many people lose their intellect and sense, especially if such a real force of anger is seen as revenge for our sins.

Roger Ebert’s website also writes: The main horror in this series is opportunists, cult leaders and blindfolded believers who, out of fear and hatred of others, seek the destruction of others in order to gain God’s mercy. “Sang Ho Yoon” combines horror with thoughtful discussions about how this happened.

The Guardian journalist Stuart Heritage points out the similarities between the series’ themes and some of the current events in cyberspace, saying: “Hell” is a truly exceptional drama wrapped in superficial thrills.

The Telegraph critic, however, gave the series a score of 60 out of 100 and wrote that “Hell” can be considered a combination of Japanese horror films such as “The Ring” and enigmatic films such as “The Da Vinci Code”, so it will be enjoyable to watch this mysterious series. Be a serious challenge for the “composite game”.

* Will there be a second season?

The first season of “Going to Hell” is a bit slow in the first episodes, but when the seemingly scattered stories and the multiplicity of actors are put together, it creates an interesting story that has a high capacity to advance and accompany the audience. Especially since the first chapter does not specify what will happen to people after death and going to hell? Will they stay there forever or may they come back to life?

Sang Ho Yoon, the director of the six-part miniseries “Going to Hell”, has made this series based on the comic book of the same name. He first unveiled this digital comic in an 11-minute animation in 2002.

In an interview with Variety, he stated that he did not have the opportunity to discuss making a second season with Netflix. Hu Eun emphasizes that he and his partner have decided to publish the rest of the story first in a comic and then decide to make it.

However, many experts believe that the shocking and successful end of the series guarantees that it will not be long before the announcement of the new season.
