I love this country and care about it

Mahosh Sheikhul-Islami, one of the old documentary makers of the country, talks about the conditions and concerns of his days.

Charso Press: Sheikh al-Islami was born in March 1324 and graduated from the London Film School. Although he has worked in Naser Taqvai’s “Uncle John Napoleon” series and had similar experiences in “Hazardestan”, “Kochok Jangili”, “Sarbadaran” and “Garash”, but He has repeatedly emphasized his greater interest in documentary cinema than fictional cinema and his fame for making documentaries such as “Article 61”, “Where do I belong”, “Khane Dom”, “Yofak”, “Top”, “Charshu” , “Pir Hara”, “Pershang”, “Killer or Murdered”, “Dark Room”, “Kol Farah” and “Tangrah”.

This documentary maker won the grand prize of the Tampere Festival in Finland, the best film of the international section of the Tehran Short Film Festival, the diploma of honor of the Fajr Film Festival, and the Firuzeh badge of the first international Cinema-Ghekrit Festival, and his latest work is an investigative-historical documentary about a character.

He said about his current situation and that he watches more movies and studies.

Pointing out that listening to music and being in nature can be a good relief and relaxation for all people, Sheikh Al-Islami asked about what kind of documentaries are more necessary to make these days? He said: Our country has a very good platform for making documentary films in terms of the variety of subjects, but documenting in this situation faces many difficulties from various aspects.

He said about some of his concerns and interests for documenting: “Working about women – regardless of all the things that have happened – has always been attractive to me, but unfortunately, some things have been done in this field in Farang and they have made the issue a joke.” However, after 50 years, I can work with an in-depth look at the issue of women and society, but I am unlikely to make a film in this field under these conditions, that’s why I am more busy reading and watching now.

Sheikh Al-Islami continued: Apart from these, I really like to work on nature and the environment, but whatever you do, there is a problem. The water issue has become so serious that I don’t know what to do anymore; While the experts predicted that we will reach such a situation and it was emphasized many times in the documentary works. So I think to myself, what can I do about water now? In my opinion, the only thing is that I personally do not consume too much. Many of us, based on our upbringing, have learned not to waste even the water used for washing vegetables and fruits and to pour it on flowers and trees; But unfortunately, each of us sees many scenes around us about how this water is wasted, and this concern is intertwined with my daily life and takes away my peace. Because in the end, I am an Iranian, I love this country and I am worried about the loss of this land.
