Where do our intellectuals go? / Media wave in breaking the shame of suicide

According to the news reporter of Fars news agency, suicide is condemned everywhere in the world. No religion or ritual sanctifies “opening one’s hand to one’s self”. Look in history, suicide is not a good thing. Abrahamic religions traditionally consider suicide as an insult to God. In Islamic culture, suicide also means withdrawing from reaching the goal of perfection and falling into the valley of regret, failure and eternal misery. In other religions, suicide has no dignity or virtue. Suicide is strongly condemned in Christianity and Judaism. Suicide with any purpose is invalid and no religion considers it as a way to get rid of problems and reach the shore of peace. Suicide, as much as it appears to save the person doing this act (which of course is not known where this idea came from), puts a heavy and unimaginable burden on the shoulders of the person’s family members and relatives, which is simply impossible to get rid of.
The reason for this article is the passing away of the veteran artist of Iranian cinema Kyomarth Pourahmad. The person who, based on his last notes, preferred suicide over life due to personal issues, and based on some hearsay, in his last notes, he asked for “cardiac arrest” to be the reason for his death.
A request that was ignored by Hoshang Golmakani in the first hours and was even given to the political direction. It is very unkind to use the “news of death” of a friend as the fuel of our wishes and wishes, and to attribute what is inside us to others without clarifying the main cause of someone’s death. It is true that Mr. Pourahmad was critical of some events around him – like many of us – but he was following the release of his latest film until the last moments in a conversation with one of the actors of his latest film and he wanted to see his film in the cinema…
Unfortunately, our intellectual and so-called modern class has gone to the direction where morality is no longer important to it, and from every event and event, it only pulls out the political aspect according to its own agenda and gives value to it, and its eyes are completely blind to other facts. He only highlights what he likes and makes judgments and conclusions based on that. Take a look at the notes of people who have written about the late Pourahmad in these few days, to see what a great desire there is to relate personal issues to political issues.
The fact that Hoshang Golmakani, without knowing about the last writings of the late Pourahmad, makes it look like a political death and related to the recent events of the society, is a clear fall of the moral values and the weakness of today’s journalism. Suicide has a long history and by the way, many famous people have unfortunately attempted it, almost all of them had a personal and psychological side.
Look at these names; Robin Williams, Ernest Hemingway, Vincent Van Gogh, Virginia Woolf, Tony Scott, Roman Gary, Sigmund Freud, Sylvia Plath, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Sadegh Hedayat, Ghazaleh Alizadeh and… have been some of the well-known figures of culture, art and history of science. whose type of death has shocked the human society. But none of their friends and acquaintances have spent their “action” on their policies and desires. What our intellectual has done with complete impudence.
Basically, the difference between an Iranian intellectual and a foreign intellectual is in these axioms. The Iranian intellectual never spends money on himself and is always ready to slaughter others in order to fulfill his inner wishes in the social, cultural and political fields, as well as imposing and injecting it on others. And he makes it a means to achieve his desire.
In the past few days, in the virtual space and in the media, unfortunately and to our astonishment, we saw that some considered this act brave and self-willed and praised and honored it in some way. Praising and glorifying the act of suicide while customs, ethics, and religion clearly consider it an unforgivable sin, the grounding and normalization of this act is reprehensible for people who have thought about it in private. Why should a range of people in the community introduce a human’s suicide as a heroic, glorious and praiseworthy act and make it appear in a way that encourages others to do this act? What is the virtue of suicide that they promote it and consider it to have human values?! Have they not thought how much they are complicit and guilty in the next events of this kind that may happen to different people?
This way of formulating and presenting it to the minds of the society about an important issue such as suicide in the media space, has given a new shape to the story by different claimants, which should be thought of as soon as possible. Because there is a great misleading capacity in this reduction of the story and empathy with evil…
