“Holy Spider” in foreign media / Western bias from event to media

Fars News Agency – Cinema Group – Alireza Sepahvand: The support of the Western world for the weak and infamous film “Holy Spider” is one of the examples of the cultural confrontation of global arrogance with the glorious Islamic Revolution of Iran. Because it is clear to everyone that cinema is born in the West and no one can distinguish good film from bad as much as Westerners themselves, and they know very well how “Holy Spider” is in terms of structure, script, acting, directing and filming, and almost He said that in all pillars of creation, a cinematic work has a level and has huge flaws and weaknesses. Now we see that the same Westerners cover the film with all its weaknesses and present it with one of the main awards at festivals like Cannes, and at the so-called “ovation” ceremony, they shake hands for 7 minutes for a film that, if it is politicized. Absence was not accepted even at the lowest prestigious local festivals. A film that, despite all its weaknesses, insulted every single nation of its country, insulted the feelings, emotions and religious beliefs of the Iranian people, and was again encouraged and won by the same Westerners, despite the slightest merit.

The same political-political approach has followed the media, and many leading media outlets, including the world’s non-media, have reacted to this film and this event. Each of them made this film due to their political and sometimes cultural and media bias. In the following, we take a look at some of the more well-known media, and of course, in this report, we have tried to include different media from the perspective of political, regional and geographical perspectives for the diversity of views, which is presented to you:

It could not have been a coincidence for a group of feminists to have chosen the screening of Holy Spider on Sunday at Cannes Film Festival for their protest against feminicides. They gathered on the famed red carpet releasing smoke from handheld devices. There were a dozen of them dressed in formal attire keeping in mind the Festival’s dress regulations – without which they might not have been able to breach the strict security barrier around the Grand Theater Lumiere, where Holy Spider was all set to play. The demonstrators held a long scroll with the names of 129 women who had been murdered in France since Cannes 2021.

Iran rejects Cannes movie award as ‘biased, political’
Iran called the Cannes Film Award a biased and political stance

The Cinema Organization of Iran, affiliated with the culture ministry, lashed out at the decision, accusing the festival of “committing a biased and political act by praising a false and disgusting film”.
Criticizing the decision, the Iranian Cinema Organization affiliated with the Ministry of Culture accused the festival of “committing a biased and political act by praising a fake film.”

The film presents “a distorted image of Iranian society and openly insults the beliefs of Shiites”, the organization said in an official statement.
The organization said in an official statement: “This film presents a distorted image of Iranian society and openly insults Shiite beliefs.”

Examining the Western media and summarizing the published material, it can be concluded that: In none of the written reviews has any renowned critic defended the cinematic and artistic structure and quality of the film, and even called it a weak and disappointing film. Hence, most of the critiques and opinions are focused on the hypertext and the themes of the film. That is, the same propaganda and political approaches that the film has followed.

In general, what emerges from the critiques and writings published in the foreign media is based on the idea that, like other sectors on which the West has thrown its umbrella, the majority of the mass media is still dominated by the West and is a propaganda and political machine. The system of domination consists of different parts of which the media is one of the main tools and the tip of the arrow, in a simpler sense, they support any issue or subject they want to support with all available tools and advance their goals.

Regarding this issue, the film “Holy Spider”, although it received a very low rating from the critics’ point of view and is considered a weak, propagandistic film by experts, but the goal of the Westerners was to be hostile to the Islamic Republic of Iran and magnified it at Cannes. Behind it, in the sphere of their media, they praise and applaud this well-known film and encourage it. However, the Western scenario has become obsolete and it has become clear to everyone that Westerners only support films about Iran that portray blackness and misery, and that a film with Iranian themes is proud and that its achievements in any Western cinematic event have no place in the Arab world.

Finally, the Cannes Film Festival, which had previously been a full-fledged artistic event, has clearly taken on a propaganda tendency and has hosted such a film with an extremely superficial structure, hand-wringing, with slogans of big and sharp flowers against Iran and Iranian culture. A film whose sole purpose was to present a distorted and destructive image of Islamic Iranian society.

In the final analysis, what can be deduced from the published texts is that “cinema” in the West has become a tool for explaining the foreign policy of the great powers and acts as a trumpet with which it conveys its lies to the world and many other things. They justify it in accordance with their interests, so the politicization of Western film awards and festivals is obvious, and no fair person can be found who doubts the politicization of these awards.
