According to the Fars News Agency’s Visual Arts Reporter, Mehdi Hosseini (born in 1322) is a contemporary Iranian painter. He was born in Kashan and was a teenager who came to Tehran with his family. In 1314, he received his diploma in painting from the Tehran Boys’ Fine Arts Conservatory, and then went to the United States to continue his studies in painting and print arts. He graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1969 and immediately went to the Pratt Institute in New York to pursue a master’s degree in painting and print arts, graduating in 1350. After returning to the country, he was employed by the University of Arts and eventually retired from the university as a professor. Hosseini is also an associate member of the Academy of Arts and an honorary member of the Iranian Painters Association.

The artist’s profession magazine has written about Mehdi Hosseini’s style of painting: He is disciplined; Accurate and orderly; Dry and calculated; Continuous and little change.

He studied in New York during the heyday of minimalism and pop art, and after returning, for nearly 30 years, he taught, faithful to the ideals of modernism in painting. He is a teacher and has raised many students. His emphasis in teaching was more on form and composition and knowing what painting is. Mahdi Hosseini has been as influential at the University of the Arts as he was at the time of Nusratullah Muslimian’s tenure at the Azad University.

In addition, Mehdi Hosseini is the director of the painting department of Tehran University of Arts and a member of the selection and judging panel of several biennials. Secretary of the Fifth Biennial and member of the Academy of Arts. He can also be considered one of the policy makers of painting in the 70’s.

Mehdi Hosseini is a painter and has painted and exhibited his works all these years. His paintings, which he carefully paints with limited, cool colors and subtle and stylized forms, depict objects and people and the conditions around him: we see the life of the 50s in a closed view of the wicker chairs by the pool, the rubble of the urban bombings of the 60s. Removed in abandoned objects and the bitter experience of losing his beautiful daughter in the 70’s, is fragmented in women. He expressed his experience during these years with form and his works can be seen as a demonstration of the disintegration of the ideal and shadowless world of paintings.

Mehdi Hosseini has spent many years of his life in cultural work and art education. The contemporary painter continues to be faithful to his predecessors in his recent collection at the Hur Gallery, but what is clear is the coherence of the compositions of the works and the variety of stratifications that are most striking in his work. In these works, we see both indoor and outdoor spaces at the same time. However, both interior and exterior spaces serve the surface of the painting. Looking at the works of this experienced painter, it can be seen that this artist and painting teacher has reached more maturity and visual cohesion in his recent exhibition than ever before.
