3 doping in Beijing Olympics / possibility of more punishment for Iranian skier

According to Fars News Agency and quoted by Insidthegames, Lydia Honko’s doping test in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics was positive and she was temporarily banned from participating in the Olympics. The athlete is the second Ukrainian participant in the Games to fail an anti-doping test.

The athlete was tested last Monday by the International Testing Agency, the answer to which was announced three days later by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The offending athlete was also informed of the outcome and was temporarily suspended from the activity. Last week, a Ukrainian skier tested positive for anabolic steroids.

The International Court of Sport (CAS) has also officially confirmed that Iranian skier Hossein Saveh Shemshaki has been expelled from the Games after taking an anabolic steroid test. Shemshaki, who has participated in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Olympics, was Iran’s flag bearer at the Beijing Olympics. His doping test was positive 3 days after the opening ceremony and the athlete could not participate in the competition.

Shemshaki was ordered to leave the Olympic Village. He could also face further disciplinary action by the World Ski Federation for the offense. Shemshaki has already admitted his wrongdoing and asked the Iranian people to forgive him for this negligence.
