AFC’s statement about the events of the Iraq-Jordan game press conference

According to Tasnim news agency, the official website of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) condemned the chaos that occurred in the press conference after the game yesterday (Monday) against the national teams of Iraq and Jordan and dealt with the culprits seriously. In this press conference, after the head coach of the Iraqi national team, Jesus Casas, refused to answer a question about his inability to establish discipline in his team, the reporters left the conference room, and one or two of them seriously disagreed with Casas. They got into a verbal conflict, so that the agents of the press conference had to intervene and separate the parties to prevent worse things from happening.

AFC’s statement regarding this incident states: AFC strongly condemns any illegal and aggressive behavior and declares that it will not tolerate such actions in the slightest. We believe that there should be a situation in which journalists can act in a professional manner and with mutual respect for their important task of covering Asian football. AFC deeply regrets what was observed in the press conference after the match between Iraq and Jordan, and in this regard, it has decided to suspend the people who caused this incident, not only from the coverage of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar, but also from the coverage of the events. The next AFC will be banned. Confirming the competence of news coverage is a privilege that requires responsibility and adherence to moral values, and people who violate these will face the consequences.
