According to the Mehr correspondent, the national adult freestyle wrestling championship and the first stage of the national team selection as the most important freestyle wrestling competition in Iran will start on Wednesday morning, hosted by Golestan province in Gorgan.
These competitions in 10 weights will be held from Wednesday to Friday (January 12 to 14) in Imam Khomeini Hall in Gorgan. The first five weights including 57 kg, 65 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg and 97 kg will be weighed at 7:00 AM. It will be held on Wednesday at the Gorgan Wrestling House and the preliminary round of these weights will begin at 10:00 AM in the Imam Khomeini Hall in Gorgan.
Six medalists from the Norwegian World Championships are exempt from the competition, and other wrestlers must participate in the competition, which will be held without weight loss.
In these competitions, an additional quota has been considered for the provinces of Mazandaran (10 people), Tehran (five people) and Lorestan (five people), which were represented in the Norwegian world competitions.
The 10-weight champions will be sent directly to the Asian Championships while remaining in the national team selection cycle.
The second and third joint members will remain in the national team selection cycle and will be allowed to participate directly in the Throne Cup.
Other wrestlers who do not finish first to third in the national championship will be allowed to participate in the Throne Cup qualifiers.
Director General of Sports and Youth of Golestan Province, regarding the national championship freestyle wrestling competitions hosted by Gorgan, said: “These competitions are held in honor of Martyr Haj Qasem Soleimani and the martyrs who defended the shrine, and we have received permission from 300 spectators to attend the competition hall.”
Qasem Ali Borzamini added: “Fortunately, the executive bodies have worked with the focus on the governorate and I also thank the Wrestling Federation for hosting these important competitions in Golestan province and we hope to be a good host for these competitions.”
He continued: Golestan wrestling has had a very good position in the country in the past and we hope that hosting this tournament will lead us to return to our original position.
