According to Tasnim news agency, Marcelo Bielsa was introduced by the Uruguayan Football Association as the head coach of the country’s national team. His contract with the Uruguayans is three years and will be valid until the end of July 2026.
Bielsa, 60, has been without a team since February 2022, when he was sacked by Leeds United, although he had a variety of offers from the Brazilian and Portuguese football federations to Paris Saint-Germain (according to local sources) and finally the Uruguayan’s offer caught his eye. There were reports of two clubs, Bournemouth and Everton, offering Bielsa to accept the leadership of these teams after the dismissal of their previous coaches, which, of course, did not go anywhere.
Bielsa replaces Diego Alonso in the technical staff of the Uruguayan national team, who resigned after failing to reach the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup and was temporarily replaced by Marcelo Brioli.
