Boroumand: What did we give Skochic to expect from him? It is not right to change the national team coach

In an interview with a sports reporter of Fars News Agency, Parviz Boroumand, regarding the issues raised regarding the continuation of Dragan Skucic’s cooperation with our national team in a situation where the Football Federation has not performed well to provide facilities and hold friendly matches for the national team, said: I speak comprehensively. We have to see how important the national team is in our country to talk about Skocic. What tools did they provide for Skocic to have a special expectation from him? Unfortunately, there is indifference and insignificance towards the national team in our country, which is a matter of concern and regret for the future of our country’s football.

He added: “Today, I heard that in the 2026 World Cup, the Asian quota has become 8 teams.” It is no longer important to climb these competitions, but to draw conclusions. Apart from the player, what tools have we given to Skocic that we would expect from him? What can be expected from him? The coach only expects the players to be able to hold a good camp in the best weather conditions in one of the European countries. What did we do for him in this case? Did we meet his expectations?

The former goalkeeper of our national football team noted: I was 98 members of the national team in the World Cup. We have a very heavy experience from those competitions that I will never forget. The Football Federation changed Tomislav Ivic in the worst case scenario. In a situation where the national team, under the guidance of this coach, could have reached the higher levels and even the third stage of the World Cup, but in a wrong decision, we changed Ivitch in the worst situation, and in the end, nothing special happened for the national team. With all the merits we had, we could not get out of the group stage of the World Cup.

Boroumand continued: “Of course, technically, I do not compare Skochich with Ivitch, because if Ivitch is one hundred percent 80, then Skochich is not 20 either.” The current situation of the national team and its players reminds me of the 98 World Cup. We have a very good and quality team, but despite being worthy, given the conditions that have been created for the national team, it is very difficult to get out of the group stage.

Asked if he was opposed to Skocic’s departure from the national team at the moment, he said: “It’s not right to change the coach in the current situation, and this is not possible at all unless you have a very good Iranian coach instead.” Let’s use him. In my opinion, a good foreign coach is efficient for our country’s basic football. We have to sign a long-term contract with him to work with our core teams, like what the Japanese did at the 1998 World Cup, and that move turned the country’s football upside down.

The former goalkeeper of our national football team, regarding the national team’s chances of advancing from the group stage, replied: “We lost Fifadi Khordad, but as the former goalkeeper of the national team, who was a soldier of this country, I was proud to hold the national team flag high.” And I served this team and my country. I ask them to think about the next FIFA so that we can play good games.
