Cantona: Manchester United has a special place in my heart and will return to its peak days

According to Tasnim news agency, French Eric Cantona, who joined the Red Devils from Leeds United in 1992, became one of the most prominent and of course the most popular players in the history of Manchester United in the five years he was in this team. It was in January 1995 that Cantona, nicknamed “King Eric”, was banned for 9 months and fined 20,000 pounds for his famous kung fu hit on Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons at the South London Stadium. However, one cannot ignore the high technical abilities of the former Red Devils striker-midfielder.

In a Christmas conversation about his former club, the legend of the Red Devils said: “Manchester United occupies a special place in my heart, but now watching Manchester United is a bit like an old man’s love for this team.” Manchester United players try as hard as they can but at the end of the day everyone is a bit disappointed. But they will return – to their heyday – because Manchester United is the biggest club in the world. When I talk about an old man’s love for this team, I’m not talking about myself, it’s a metaphor.

After Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement in 2013, Manchester United suffered a significant decline and since then they have not been able to win the Premier League and have not been a real contender in various competitions.
