In an interview with Mehr reporter, Vahid Moradi said about the selection process of the head coach of the national volleyball team and the mischief of some people, which was the reason for their withdrawal: In the meeting of the technical committee, one of the members explained that a volleyball player from inside Iran thinks that in the future after the course My supervisor will be responsible for the federation, he had a contact with Mr. Lorenzetti that I don’t know whether it was directly or indirectly.
Moradi continued: In that call, he asked Mr. Lorenzetti not to take action because this is a supervisory period and maybe he or other friends will come to the federation, which will be up in the air if his contract is signed. I quoted this statement from a member of the technical committee.
He continued: But the Volleyball Federation does not pay attention to these talks until the moment I am in charge of it. This is not important for us. If this incident is true, I really don’t know about it. But if it is true, what our friends did not see in these calls was the national interest and the benefit of volleyball. There are a few months left between now and the end of the supervision period, can the volleyball federation sit on its hands and not do anything for the Olympic selection?! Because someone is interested in coming to the federation himself and making any decision he wants.
The head of the volleyball federation emphasized: If these words are true, it is against the national interests and it is absolute selfishness. In addition, it will not have any effect in the long run. These people may be able to change the vote of two or three coaches, but in the long run, the federation will do its job. We are tasked to keep Iran’s volleyball at the highest level at the international level, so we will not give up for a moment. If they change the vote of any coach, we will still talk with other options. The number of prominent coaches in the world of volleyball is not small. We try to make the best happen.
In response to the question of whether the federation will enter into negotiations with Lorenzetti again, Moradi stated: He has expressed his interest in working with Iranian volleyball. Even during the talks I had with him, I emphasized that if he heard anything, it is different from the realities inside Iran and he can ask questions about the conditions in Iran from friends who were already in Iran, such as Mr. Alceno, Velasco, Tutolo. He said that I talked to the gentlemen and they all praised Iran, but now I don’t have the conditions to come to this country and I gave up on my decision.
He said: This matter was a bit strange for us, because in the initial conversation I had with him, he had expressed his desire to be in Iran. He was even supposed to announce his salary to me on the 4th of January. Mr Lorenzetti is a great coach and we respect his decisions. There is no sin against him. If we want to blame someone, it is people from inside Iran or those who are greedy for the responsibility of the federation, or brokers who are looking to attract another coach and drive other coaches out of the field, we should blame these people. If such an event has happened, it is a very bad event for Iranian volleyball.
In response to the question of whether he is going to negotiate with other options in Lausanne along with the referee, the head of the volleyball federation said: We are not going to negotiate with any option in Lausanne and we do not have such a plan. I am not aware of Mr. Davarzni’s plan, but we are not going to negotiate with any option in Lausanne. We are waiting for our desired options to be added to the number of current options so that we can make the right decision.
In response to the question if one of the reasons why the technical committee did not choose a head coach was because of the presence of brokers to choose Piazza, Moradi said: Piazza is one of our main options for the national volleyball team. I don’t care about informal conversations. I think these talks are people’s speculations, but what I know is that Piazza is still one of the main options of the federation and I hope we can determine the role of the national team as soon as possible.
The head of the volleyball federation said about the time of choosing the head coach of the national team: The plan of the volleyball federation is to choose the head coach of the national team as soon as possible. However, the members of the technical committee unanimously suggested that there should be no rush due to the withdrawal of Lorenzetti and Hanin. In addition, the legionnaires are abroad until the end of April and are busy with their teams. The desired foreign coaches are also involved in the domestic leagues of their country, so let’s not rush because we have time to make a decision, but this matter will not necessarily be postponed to next year and this will happen in the evening and the national volleyball team will know its head coach.
In response to the question of whether Saeed Maarouf is still one of the main options of the Volleyball Federation to lead the Iranian national volleyball team, Moradi said: Maarouf is still one of the options and other options will be added. We are consulting and will make a decision soon.
