Enrique was fired as the head coach of the Spanish national team

According to Tasnim news agency, following the failure of the Spanish national team to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup by accepting defeat against Morocco, Luis Enrique was removed from the leadership of the Matadors.

The Spanish Football Federation released a statement appreciating Enrique’s efforts and announced that Luis Rubiales and Jose Francisco Molina, the technical director of the Spanish national team, have informed Enrique that he will no longer lead the Matadors.

Enrique led the Matadors in two periods (2018 to 2019 and 2019 to 2022), but the tragic death of his son caused him to temporarily stop leading La Roja between these two periods and hand it over to Roberto Moreno.

In this period of time, Spain reached the semi-finals of three events (two editions of the League of Nations and Euro 2020), but in the end, Enrique could not meet the expectations of his managers to return the champion of the World Cup 2010 and Euro 2008 and 2012 to the top of world football.

Meanwhile, in Qatar, Spain failed to advance to the top eight teams by accepting a 3-0 defeat against Morocco, which was eliminated from the competition four years ago at the same stage of the competition and in the same way, under the guidance of Fernando Ieru.

Roberto Martins, the former head coach of the Belgian national team, Marcelino, the head coach of Athletic Bilbao last season, and Luis de la Fuente, the current head coach of the Spanish under-21 team, are mentioned as the main options to replace Enrique in the Spanish national team. Enrique had a contract with Spain until the end of this year.
