Farewell of the captain of Mexico from national football


According to Tasnim news agency and quoted by Sport Express; 36-year-old Andres Guardado had previously informed John de Luisa, president of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), of his decision to retire from the national team. He had said that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is his last World Cup.

Guardado has been playing for the Mexican national team since 2005. This player played in five World Cup tournaments. Won the CONCACAF Gold Cup three times (2011, 2015, 2019) and won the bronze medal at the America’s Cup (2007).

The Mexican national team was in Group C with the national teams of Argentina, Poland and Saudi Arabia in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Mexico could not advance to the elimination stage by being in the third place of the table.
