According to Tasnim news agency, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Italian Football Federation has launched a case to deal with the situation of Manolo Portanova, the midfielder of the Genoa football team.
The 22-year-old Italian player, who has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for being an accomplice in the gang rape of a 21-year-old student, along with three others. One of Portanova’s accomplices is his uncle Alessio Langella, who was involved in the incident that happened in May 2021 at a house party in the city of Siena. At the request of Portanova and Langela, their trial process started faster than the announced time, and according to that, the Genoa team player was charged with 6 years of imprisonment and paying a fine of 120,000 euros for complicity in the crime.
However, Italian law gives Portanova the opportunity to appeal on at least three, and possibly four, levels, and until all of them are rejected, the player is presumed innocent and free beyond that. For this reason, and more importantly, the strong protest of the fans and observers of the trial process to the verdict issued by Alba Portanova, the Genoa club has not made a decision to suspend or ban its player. However, according to the report of the official Italian news agency (ANSA), the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Italian Football Federation has decided to open cases to deal with Portanova’s violations, and in this regard, it has requested documents from the Siena city court to match them for the player. The Genoa football team should consider punishments.
