After winning the national championship in the 57 kg freestyle wrestling, which was considered as the first stage of the selection cycle for the national team, Alireza Sarlek was able to take a strong step to join the national team again.
He, who also holds the title of world runner-up in 2021, said in a conversation with Mehr reporter: “I was able to win the national championship when all the 57 kg contenders participated in the competition and none of the main contenders were exempted from these competitions.” Was.
He added: Considering that the Asian Championship is ahead, I must be able to perform brilliantly in these competitions so that my presence in the national team is confirmed. In my opinion, if I win a gold medal in the Asian Championship, I will be exempt from the Takhti Cup and later I will have to fight with the champion of the Takhti Cup to reach the runner-up position of the national team. Anyway, I have to wait for the decisions of the technical staff and wrestle in whatever field they say according to the selection cycle.
He mentioned his poor performance in the 2022 World Championships and said: After I won a silver medal in the 2021 World Championships, I stayed away from regular and serious training for a while. Of course, the reason for this issue was the absence of a training opponent in the city of Aliguderz. Anyway, at that time, I participated in Takhti Cup and also lost weight several times and participated in two consecutive and heavy arenas. That’s why I couldn’t get a good result in last year’s World Championships.
At the end, Sarlek said about the level of the Asian Championship: The level of Asian lightweight fights has always been high, and this period will be the same, and I must try to get the best result. Of course, the championship in Asia can be considered a good point in the ranking of the World League. At the moment, I am only thinking about the Asian gold medal as this title is the beginning of my path to bigger goals next year. For sure, the world silver medal will not be my last medal, and I am thinking about the world competitions and the Olympic Games with high confidence and motivation.
