Income of La Liga teams based on their position at the end of the season

According to Tasnim news agency, Barcelona has won the championship, and the faces of three of the four representatives of Spain in the next season of the European Champions League and one of the three teams relegated to the second division have also been determined. However, none of these cases is the reason that the games of any of the La Liga teams (except for Barcelona and Elche, whose position in the table will not change until the end of the season) in the two weeks at the end of this competition will be ceremonial, because each step higher in the standings At the end of the season, it will bring more income for them.

According to the La Liga statutes, 25% of the TV broadcast rights of La Liga games are distributed among the teams of this league based on the results of the teams on the field. To clarify this matter better, it is enough to take a look at the distribution of one billion and 427 euros of LaLiga’s income from the sale of TV broadcasting rights in the 2021-22 season. In fact, this is the last comprehensive report that has been published to date on the details of the distribution of revenues from the sale of television rights for La Liga games. Half of this figure, which is 713.5 million euros, will be divided equally among the 20 teams of the league, in other words, the share of each team will be 35.6 million euros. The second part of this amount is divided into two parts of 356.7 million euros. One of the two parts of 356.7 million euros is distributed according to the criteria of the social status of each club. In this way, the teams with a larger fan community and more season ticket sales during the 5-season period, which expose a larger audience to the advertisements of the league’s sponsors, will have a proportionally larger share of television broadcasting rights.

The second part of 356.7 million euros is based on the results of the teams and the position they finish in the league at the end of the season, and this is what forces the clubs to try to improve their position at the end of the season.

In this way, in the 2021-22 season, the share of each team will be determined based on its position in the table at the end of the season as follows:

First team (champion); 17% equivalent to 60.64 million euros
Second team (runner-up); 15% equal to 53.51 million euros
the third team; 13% equivalent to 46.37 million euros
the fourth team; 11% equivalent to 39.24 million euros
the fifth team; 9% equivalent to 32.10 million euros
the sixth team; 7% equivalent to 24.97 million euros
the seventh team; 5% equivalent to 17.83 million euros
the eighth team; 3.5% equivalent to 12.48 million euros
ninth team; 3% equivalent to 10.70 million euros
tenth team; 2.75% equivalent to 9.81 million euros
11th team; 2.5% equivalent to 8.91 million euros
the twelfth team; 2.25 percent equal to 8.0. million euros
13th team; 2% equivalent to 7.13 million euros
the fourteenth team; 1.75% equivalent to 6.24 million euros
15th team; 1.5% equal to 5.35 million euros
16th team; Equivalent to 1.25% equivalent to 4.46 million euros
17th team; One percent is equivalent to 3.56 million euros
18th team; 75 percent equal to 2.67 million euros
19th team; Half a percent is equivalent to 1.78 million euros
20th team; 0.25% equal to 0.89 million euros

The mentioned figures are not paid to the teams at once, but during five seasons – 35% in the first season, 20% in the second season, and 15% in each season from the third to the fifth season. For example, Barcelona will receive 35% of the 60.64 million euros from the TV broadcast rights for winning La Liga next season, 15 million euros for the next two seasons, and a little more each season (up to three seasons) after that. will receive from 8 million euros.

As can be seen, the difference in income of each team with the team after it in the top ranks of the standings is close to 7 million euros.
