A week after Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, the World Wrestling Union (WWU) issued an official statement in support of Ukraine banning Russian and Belarusian athletes, coaches and national and national wrestling clubs and teams from participating in international tournaments. International ship hosting will also be revoked from the two countries.
Russian wrestling is one of the world’s top wrestling powers, but its ban follows the International Olympic Committee’s recommendation to world sports federations to boycott Russia.
