In an interview with Mehr reporter, Jahangir Seyed Abbasi said about the youth volleyball team’s championship in the World Championships: The national youth volleyball team did a great job by winning this championship. Definitely, this championship is due to the support of the volleyball federation and the hard work of the technical staff, but one of the reasons that made this championship happen for the team was the presence of these players in the Super League last year, which made them gain precious experience. In 2019, the same championship was achieved for the youth team, but there is a gap in the process of professionalization and transfer of these players to level one. In fact, there is a gap between the senior and youth teams. The same team that won the world championship in 2019 had a passer named Falahatzad, who was in very good physical condition, but I don’t know what happened to this player and where he is. He does not even play in League One.
We bring players to the world championship, but we let them go
Iran’s volleyball coach said: At that time, Amirhossein Esfandiar was announced as the best player in the world championship, but now he is lagging behind many players in terms of performance. Or when the youth team won the world championship, a player like Amirhossein Tokhte was in this team, but now among the senior sprinters, this player is not among the best. The main problem in volleyball is that we take players to the world championship and then let them go. Just when these players need to become a world-class professional player, we leave them to themselves. With the utmost respect that I have for all Iranian coaches and I am one of them, but I believe that we need a level one foreign coach like Velasco here. The Italian team has a technical manager like Velasco in the youth category, this generation will shine in Italian volleyball for many years.
The volleyball federation should not abandon the youth team
He said: Currently, only Hazratpour from the youth team, who won the world championship in 2019, has become a regular player of the national team and is somewhat close to international standards. The rest of the players could not grow and become the best in the world. In my opinion, this problem goes back to the federation, which did not have a plan for these players. The federation should not abandon this team, this youth team will be the golden generation of Iranian volleyball, so the players of the youth team, along with some other talented players, should be trained under the supervision of a high-level foreign coach and learn the modern volleyball of the world and become professional. Exactly what Velasco did.
The coach must also build the professional character of the players
In response to the criticism of the captain of the national team about the lack of listening to the players of the national team, the Iranian volleyball expert said: The strength of the previous team was that the priority of all volleyball players was. In my opinion, the national team needs a coach who, in addition to the technical and tactical process, will teach the players modern volleyball and make them professional characters. Without exaggeration, I can say that Velasco taught the players this professional character. A player who is online from morning to night and his whole focus is on how the audience reacts during the game, cannot play properly.
The world’s top coaches do not come to the national team as assistants
Seyyed Abbasi, in response to the recruitment of world-class coaches as assistant coaches in the national team, said: I heard the names of “Heinen” and “Anastazi” who may be negotiated with as assistant coaches. According to what I know about Heinen, he will not come to the national team as an assistant because this coach is one of the best in the world. A coach like Anastasia has the same conditions. If we are going to bring a first-class coach to help the national team, don’t play with words and hire him as the head coach. There is no problem with Behrouz Atai as an assistant to this coach, but we should not play with titles. If we are going to bring a first-class coach to help the national team and give him all the powers and the Iranian coach has no role, it will not be the right process. I think it is unlikely that coaches like Heinen and Anastasia will come to Iran as assistant coaches.
Iranian volleyball will not go to the Olympics
Iran’s volleyball coach said: “It is true that Heenen welcomed his presence in Iran in the past, especially when Saeed Maarouf was in the team, but he does not come to the national team under these special conditions.” In my opinion, we should recruit a first-class foreign coach for the national team in order not to lose the opportunity to participate in the Olympics, because if Iranian volleyball does not go to the Olympics, it will be seriously damaged.
Invite Saeed Maarouf to the team as a coach, not a player
Seyed Abbasi said about the return of Saeed Marouf to the national team: I think it is unlikely that Saeed Marouf will return to the national team as a player. Because once he has made up his mind, it will definitely be irreversible. I think friends brought up this issue in order to reduce the attack of cyber space to calm the atmosphere a little. In addition, I believe that if we are going to use the famous Saeed Marouf, he can undoubtedly be one of the best coaches in the world because he has enough knowledge and ability.
