Russia’s efforts to return to European football

According to Fars News Agency, the Secretary General of the Russian Football Federation announced the extensive efforts of this organization to return to the group of European teams.

“Maxim Mitrofanov” told the Russian state news agency “Ria Novosti” that the representatives of the football federation of this country meet with their European colleagues in the European Football Union almost every week and negotiate with them about the return of the country’s national team to UEFA.

Not long ago, the news mentioned Russia’s desire to participate in the Asian Football Confederation, but it seems that the Russians have made a different decision and want to try to restore their position in European football.

Following the start of Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine in early 2022, UEFA and FIFA banned the Russian national team and clubs from participating in competitions under their supervision.
