Sattarpur: Iranian coaches are not up-to-date and boxing needs a foreign coach

Mohammad Sattarpour, in an interview with the sports reporter of Fars news agency, in response to the results of the national boxing team in the 19th round of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, said: The results of the Asian Games are not acceptable to any of us. Without wasting time, we must bring a first-class foreign coach to the national boxing team. Since the head of the boxing federation has changed, we have had regular camps and even good expeditions, but good results were not achieved in Hangzhou, and this shows that Iranian boxing needs a first-class foreign coach.

In the continuation of his speech, he noted: Each of our trainers has adopted a procedure and none of them teach in the same way. You look at the countries of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Cuba and other countries, each of these countries has its own style, but in our country, every coach who takes responsibility teaches the same style. For this reason, the presence of a foreign coach is mandatory in Iranian boxing. A foreign coach should come and change the boxing style of Iran. It has been 10 years since my official competition. Our coaches are sent along with the teams and just watch the matches, but what is taught in training is different from what foreigners do in Iran.

The bronze medalist of the Doha Asian Games, in response to the question of what solution do you have to solve Iran’s boxing problems, said: There are some changes in world boxing and everyone is improving, but our children are performing them in training. They learn, but they cannot perform those techniques in competitions. Unfortunately, the science of our coaching is not up to date. If someone attended the world class, but did not learn a special training, those who participated in the world class, can they teach in Iran with that style? Undoubtedly, the answer to this question is no. Because our trainers are not updated at all.

The bronze medalist of the Asian Championship in Mongolia continued his speech and said: “Fortunately, the head of the federation is a sports person.” Hosseini is a boxer. So no coach can dictate technique to him. He is the champion of this discipline. Hosseini knows boxing and is fully knowledgeable in this field. In Iran, we don’t even have as many good teachers as there are fingers on one hand. So a high-level foreign coach should come to Iran and all coaches should follow him. Because no one has the knowledge of the world and we all have to accept this issue. When a foreign coach comes to Iran, he can teach the boxers and also teach our coaches the modern science of the world. Unfortunately, everyone in our boxing is a contender. Coaches are respectable for us, but no one has the world boxing knowledge. Boxing is progressing day by day in the world, but our coaches are still in a defensive position and don’t like anyone to teach them, and these thoughts are wrong.

Continuing his speech, Sattarpour said: Despite the fact that a foreign coach trains boxers, he should also train our coaches so that in the next few years, our coaches will be as up-to-date as the foreigners so that they can deliver good students to Iranian boxing. If you visit the clubs, you will easily see that our trainers are still teaching in the style of the past 30 years and there is no news of the training of small things that are taught in the world.

In response to the question, “Do you believe that if a foreign coach takes over the leadership of the national team, in a short-term process, we can grow well?” It was fun for us. After that, the Indians hired a Cuban coach and the same decision made their boxing win medals in the Olympics and the world with the knowledge that the Cuban coach had. This success is the result of effort and unity. The Indians were our bellwether, but when a Cuban coach chooses a style and puts it on his agenda, that country’s boxing thrives.

At the end of his speech, he noted: Our coaches must accept the presence of a foreign coach. We all should know that we are far behind the modern science of the world. At one point, we brought foreign coach Asebal to Iran, but we kicked him out because we didn’t want to believe that he is a good coach and knows more than us. A few years later, Acebal became the head coach of the Cuban national team and won gold and world medals for Cuba. Now it’s time for all Iranian trainers to sit under his training and update their knowledge after the arrival of a foreign trainer. If our coaches are trained, they can be with the national team even on missions. For example, in the whole country, the coaches who make players give students to the national team, and finally, in the national team, the coach of the national team easily benefits from the efforts of the coaches who make students, and there is no support for the coaches who make the players. If a foreign coach comes to Iran, these same coaches can improve their knowledge and the federation can use them in all the missions. I was in the national team, when I came and became a coach, I realized how different the atmosphere is. I realized that I have to work for many years, I have to know well the science of coaching, the science of training, the science of bodybuilding, familiarity with psychology and many other issues. This is a topic that a foreign coach can teach Iranian coaches by being in Iran.
