Serbian national team fined due to political controversy

According to the Tasnim news agency and quoted by the Associated Press news agency; FIFA fined the Serbian Football Federation 20,000 euros for displaying its flag with the territory of Kosovo in the dressing room of the national team during the group stage games of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

FIFA also condemned the Croatian Football Federation to pay a fine of 50,000 euros due to the political banner of this team’s fans in the 2022 World Cup group stage match against Canada. Croatian fans in this match carried a banner that read “Kenin 95: No one runs as fast as Borjan”. Milan Borjan, the Serbian goalkeeper of the Canadian national team, fled with his family in 1995 after the Croatian forces entered the city of Kenin.

The Saudi Football Federation was fined 30,000 euros due to the large number of yellow cards received by the national team in the first match of the 2022 World Cup group stage against Argentina.
