Karate competitions of world age categories were hosted by Turkey and held in Konya, and our country’s junior, youth and Omid boys and girls teams ended their work with the single gold medal of Alireza Heydari in Omid age group.
Hereof, Seyyed Hasan Tabatabai On Tuesday, in an interview with IRNA, he explained the performance of Iran’s karatekas and stated: Overall, the results were not satisfactory. Considering the high capacity of Iranian karate in terms of quality and quantity, this result was not worthy of the name of Iranian karate.
He added: More is expected from the discipline that won the Asian championship with authority and won the most colorful medal in the Olympics, has shone in the adult world championships and has always achieved good results in the Asian Games. The results obtained in world age group fights have different reasons, which are evaluated from different dimensions by holding technical committee meetings and using the opinions of experts.
Tabatabai stated: It was very important for us to be sent to Konya World Cup after the basic teams did not participate in the previous world championships and did not participate in several stages of the World Youth League. Our karatekas had to go to the world, fortunately we were able to send the full team.
The head of the karate federation continued: The geography of world karate has changed. Many countries such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Croatia, etc. have invested in this field. The discussion of Japan is separate, but in the same Konya world, strong teams such as France and Italy also won only one gold medal, and Spain did not win gold at all.
He said: I am optimistic about the future makers of karate in Iran and we will definitely see the positive effects of this mission in the future, even though it was far from the desired results.
Tabatabai said: We are preparing for the Asian Championship, and then we have the Asian Games and the World Adult Championship, which can be associated with positive results. We will repair the problems and weaknesses that exist by taking advantage of the opinions of karate elders so that this discipline can raise the Iranian flag in various events like in the past.
Regarding the fact that one of the criticisms of Iranian teams is not having enough camps, he said: Some coaches believe that camps should not be long-term, but others are in favor of long-term camps. The Konya World Championships were among the battles in which we did not have much training, which should be discussed and evaluated in this regard.
